Boards and Commissions Overview

The Boards and Commissions Division licenses and regulates more than 30 different professions and specialized trades, from accountants to funeral directors. This division establishes specialized standards on education and training to ensure New Mexicans receive quality care and services from qualified professionals.

Each board and commission has its own set of rules and its own licensing requirements. The Governor of New Mexico appoints members to boards and commissions who work closely with the Superintendent of the New Mexico Regulation & Licensing Department to protect consumer rights while promoting good business practices and economic growth.

Reciprocity

State Boards and Commissions that issue occupational or professional licenses offer expedited licensure and waiver of initial licensing fees to military service members, their spouses and dependent children, and veterans. Eligibility also requires that the applicant hold a current license in good standing from another jurisdiction that meets New Mexico’s minimal licensing requirements for the same license, and successful completion of any required background check.

Check each respective board or commission’s webpage to access their application forms or online application portal for more information, instructions on how to apply, and contact information for staff to answer any questions. Some boards and commissions offer further waivers of licensure requirements for military members with active licenses, and additional information may be found in the respective regulations on each board and commission webpage.

ANNOUNCEMENT:

NEW ONLINE LICENSING PLATFORM  PLEASE READ IF APPLYING OR RENEWING A LICENSE

The New Mexico Regulation and Licensing Department and State of New Mexico are implementing a new automated licensing system. This investment will simplify the licensing process, making it easier for applicants and licensees to apply for and renew licenses in New Mexico, eliminating paper forms, money orders, and cut down on staff time required to process, review, approve and renew licensees.

The rollout of the new system will be completed in phases, starting in the summer of 2021 and will continue into 2022 with all RLD boards and commissions. If you are a licensee please ensure that you have a current email address on file in order to receive timely communication regarding the new system.

PAPER APPLICATIONS (currently available for download online) for initial licensure should be completed and received by RLD at least two weeks before any go-live date, which will be posted on this website. Once live, applications must be submitted through the new online portal, which will be linked here and on each respective board or commission webpage once the go-live date is announced.

CURRENT LICENSEES please take a moment to update your records with RLD, either by logging into your online account (if you currently use one) or by contacting staff, to ensure that you receive timely email communication with updates. Current licensees will receive an automated email from noreply.rldlicensing@state.nm.us with a unique registration link in order to access your records and set up your account for the first time. Staff will send out announcements with more information before each go-live date, and are being trained and ready to assist with questions.

For more information about this transition, please visit the home page for each board and commission as they go-live with the new system.
