Interior Design: Licensing, Registration, and Renewal

IMPORTANT: Effective July 28, 2023

The New Mexico Regulation and Licensing Department has implemented an online licensing system for Interior Design applications and license renewals. This investment will simplify the licensing process, making it easier for applicants and licensees to apply for and renew licenses in New Mexico.

Applications for initial licensure and renewal must be submitted through the online portal.

    License and registration attachments required for online application:

    • LICENSURE BY EXAMINATION–

    Verification of passing the National Council for Interior Design Qualification (NCIDQ) examination or other nationally recognized examination approved by the department and Active certification from the National Council for Interior Design Qualification or another nationally recognized certification.

     

    • LICENSURE WITHOUT EXAMINATION-

    Copy of an active licensure in another state or country where qualifications are equal to or exceed those required by the Interior Designers Act and the applicant complies with all other requirements of the Interior Designers Act; or documentation to show applicant has apprenticed for at least eight years under a licensed interior designer who passed the National Council for Interior Design Qualification examination or another nationally recognized examination approved by the department.

     

    • Please note, you may be required to upload additional documents which will be determined by the pathway in which you submit your application or renewal application.
