Counseling and Therapy Practice: Board Information
The Counseling and Therapy Practice Board is established by state law under the Counseling and Therapy Practice Act. The board has certain powers and duties provided by law, primarily to promulgate rules governing the profession and related licensing requirements and to take disciplinary action against licenses and unlicensed individuals who violate the practice act or rules of the board. The board is administratively attached to the New Mexico Regulation and Licensing Department, and responsibility of day-to-day operations are managed by staff within the Department’s Boards and Commissions Division.
Board Members
The board is comprised of professional and public members who are appointed by and serve at the will of the Governor. By law, the board consists of the following:
- Seven total members who are current New Mexico residents and have been for the preceding five years
- Five professional members
- Two public members who have not been licensed or practiced in the profession, or have any significant financial interest in the profession
