Q: What is required for a NM Interior Designer’s License?

Applicants for licensure must have passed the National Council for Interior Design Qualification (NCIDQ) exam.  This exam is administered by NCIDQ.  All arrangements must be made with NCIDQ to take the exam.


When the applicant has passed the NCIDQ exam they can submit a completed application form along with the required fee; three current letters of recommendation/reference; verification of passing the NCIDQ exam; copies of transcripts from the college or university they attended and fill out a course evaluation form if their degree is in a related field. 

Q: How and when do I renew my license?

The NM Interior Design license expires on October 1st of every year.  A postcard with renewal information will be mailed to you at least 30 days before the renewal expiration date.  You can renew online by following the instructions on the postcard or you can go to our website and print out a renewal application and submit it by mail along with the required fee and documentation verifying your continuing education requirements.

Q: How do I get a Continuing Education Course approved by the Board?

The Board Course Evaluation Form is available on our website or from the Board office. Complete the form and submit it to the Board with the required fee and any additional documentation necessary pertaining to the course.  The Board’s continuing Education Committee will review the course and notify you by mail of their decision.
